Ross-On-Wye is a historic market town centred on a well preserved stone market house. Situated on the banks of the River Wye in South Herefordshire close to the border with Gloucestershire and Monmouthshire. Ross acts as an excellent gateway to the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley, being such a beautiful area to live and work it is no wonder that it is often seen as the birth place of modern day tourism.
The town has excellent access to the motorway network via the M50 and about a 25 minutes drive to the M5. It’s only a fifteen minute drive to Monmouth which is also serviced by a regular bus route as are both Hereford and Gloucester. The nearest international airport is Bristol, with Birmingham and Cardiff a little further but all within an hour and half drive. The nearest train station is in Ledbury.
There are many different sport and leisure activities in Ross-on-Wye. Football, Cricket, Golf and Rugby are all well catered for. There is a sports centre with plenty of different activities available for all ages including a public indoor swimming pool.
The area benefits from numerous primary schools in the town and neighbouring villages all feeding John Kyrle High School providing secondary and further education.
Notable names from the area include; Richard Hammond (Television presenter) Shane Warne (Ex-Cricketer turned Cricket pundit) as did the dramatist Dennis Potter, who was best known for writing “The Singing Detective”. John Kyrle known as "the Man of Ross", was an English philanthropist, from his early twenties he decided instead of keeping all of his money to invest it back into the local community.
